The vast majority of server outages are not caused by spectacular floods or widespread power outages. The reality is that most outages are caused by mundane and preventable events. Things like the disk filled up or there was gradual increase in the number of visitors to your site.
We can watch your servers every day to make sure that you don’t get surprises. There is an initial one time setup fee and then monthly costs based on the type and amount of monitoring you require.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Services - What kinds of services do you want to monitor? Things like email, forums, downloads, web sites, blogs or other things like this.
Response Time - If something is found to be not working, what kind of response is appropriate? We can send email to someone on your staff, execute a script on the server, or if you're one of our managed services customers we will fix the issue according to our agreement.
Standard Probes - Probes are the what do the actual work in a monitoring solution. There are three types, basic, advanced and custom. Basic probes are installed on our server and connect to your server across the network. Advanced probes require installation of an application on your server. Basic probes are easier to set up, however advanced probes provide richer functionality.
Custom Probes - We have a wide range of probes that can be used off the shelf. However, if you have custom software or special situations we can build a custom probe for you.
STANDARD PROBES
There are many probes, but we have listed the most common ones below. If you have a specific need that you don't see listed, just let us know.
Server Availability - sends an alert if the server is not online
MySQL - sends an alert if the database stops responding
Server Load - sends an alert if the server becomes too busy
Apache - checks to see if your web site is responsive
Disk Space Utilization- sends an alert when disks become too full
HTTP Connections - sends an alert when there are too many connections to your site
